Let's go touring…
Luxembourg guided motorcycle tour
Luxembourg self-guided motorcycle tour. A short, sweet and relaxing holiday that's only half a day away from the British Isles.
Our Luxembourg guided motorcycle tour is a perfect season opener. It could also be your first-ever bike holiday abroad, or you may want to add it on to a longer journey.
Our Luxembourg Guided Motorcycle Tour
Despite its proximity to the British shores, Luxembourg may not be the first motorcycling destination that pops into your mind. Luxembourg is slap-bang in the middle of Western Europe and only a leisurely morning ride away from the UK. With its small size, it also affords us the added luxury of venturing into neighbouring Belgium as well as Germany.
Our base for four nights is in a charming hotel just a stone’s throw away from the German border. The hotel restaurant is well known for serving a wide range of local specialities. We can try smoked ham, snails, trout, game and, of course, chocolate and pastries. And finally, while here, it would be a shame not to sample some of the famous locally brewed beer.
There is much to do and see and many traffic-free roads to ride here.
Our suggested itinerary includes day rides that will take us deep into the panoramic countryside of Luxembourg and Belgium. Furthermore, we can also venture as far as the lush wine-growing region of Moselle Valley in Germany. If your interests lie in war history, a visit to Bastogne might be a good option. The town was made famous by the Battle of the Bulge, Easy Company and Band of Brothers TV series. Here, we can also visit the War Museum, the Mardasson Memorial, and the Army Barracks. Our journey continues to Clervaux and Malmedy to explore the imposing medieval castle and visit the War Memorial.
Traben-Trarbach and Cochem in Germany are perhaps the most famous towns in the Moselle region. They are certainly well-visited and busy with bikers. The towns are also connected by a fantastic road that follows the contours of the river. There are numerous wine houses, historical sites and castles to visit everywhere along the river.
Cochem Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions around here and definitely worth visiting. The old town in Traben-Trarbach has many traditional
restaurants as well as cafés, making it a perfect spot for lunch. It is also easy to park as there are several car parks with dedicated motorcycle bays.

Our Luxembourg Self-Guided Motorcycle Tour Itinarary

Today is the start of your Luxembourg guided motorcycle.
We’ll head towards Belgium after an early morning Eurotunnel crossing and a quick ride through France. Around lunchtime, we’ll clear the motorways and start riding some fantastic rural highways and byways towards Ardennes National Park.
The town of Bastogne was made famous for its WW2 history and the Battle of the Bulge. But it is even better known as the movie set for the “Easy Company” in the USA war series “Band of Brothers”. Bastogne is always a popular place to stop. However, if you do not stop today, you’ll be able to return. It is part of one of your day-rides.
Your base hotel is located in the historic town of Vianden. The town is also home to one of the most magnificent castles in Europe. It is perched high on the hillside overlooking the town below. It’s about a twenty-minute uphill walk from your hotel to the castle. However, alternatively (and fortunately), you can take a cable car.

Today, on the Luxembourg guided motorcycle tour, our suggested ride-out will take us on a route through Luxembourg and Belgium’s scenic countryside.
Our first port of call will be the historic town of Arlon. It is an excellent place to stop for a coffee and walkabout. Like any reputable Belgian town, it has a little WW2 tank parked in the centre. The tank also comes with several missile holes.
From here, we’ll continue to the riverside town of Esch-sur-Sûre. It is a popular biker destination and a perfect place to go for a wander or have a drink.

Today, please feel free to create your own entertainment or riding itinerary. However, if you wish, you can follow our suggested ride out. From your hotel, you can ride to Clervaux to visit Clervaux Castle. Your next destination is Malmedy, where you can stop for a break or visit the Malmedy Massacre Memorial.
The return leg of your day ride includes Bastogne. So if you missed it the first time around or wish to stop again, it is always a good option. The town is a popular biking destination. It has a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere and a good selection of restaurants and cafés.
Bastogne is an excellent place to visit if your interests lie in military history. There is the War Museum, Mardasson Memorial, Bastogne Barracks and a little tank parked in the town centre.
The whole ride is around 140 miles and can be done at a leisurely pace. Or, if you wish, you can modify the mileage.

A popular option for today is a ride to the Moselle wine region in Germany. Traben-Trarbach and Cochem in Germany are perhaps the most famous towns in the Moselle region. They are certainly well-visited and busy with bikers. The towns are also connected by a fantastic road that follows the contours of the river. There are numerous wine houses, historical sites and castles to visit
everywhere along the river.
Cochem Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions around here and
definitely worth visiting. The old town in Traben-Trarbach has many traditional
restaurants as well as cafés, making it a perfect spot for lunch. It is also easy to
park as several car parks have dedicated motorcycle bays.

On your last day of the Luxembourg guided motorcycle tour, we’ll travel one last time through the Belgian countryside’s rolling hills and green pastures. At around midday, you’ll join the motorway that will take you to Calais to board your afternoon channel tunnel crossing.
We hope you had a great guided motorcycle holiday with RideWithUs. Until next time.
